The Power of a Portrait
“There’s something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” - Ronald Regan (I know, I thought this was a Winston Churchill quote too, turns out it’s not!).
There is something about a horse that just cures all ails, horses are our solace, the thing that speaks to our very soul and gives us meaning. Our horses are everything.
But it’s not just about the complete picture of our horses, it’s all of those little details that we love, from the secret marking only you know about under their chin, to the extra long hair that grows out of their ears when their winter coat comes in. It’s their greeting to us in the morning, that soft little whicker, the way they press their nose against our cheek, their unique quirks that make them so very them.
All of this is what we think of when we think about our own horses, and it’s this whole essence that I aim to capture when I’m honoured with the task of shooting their portrait.
And all of those little details are why I’m shifting the way I shoot during a portrait session.
I’ll still be capturing those full body portraits that emulate a Stubbs painting, and those beautiful headshots that everyone loves, but I’m also choosing to focus in on the smaller details.
From the white markings on their face, to the gentleness of their gaze, to the mix of colours that make up their mane.
I want to capture it all, to offer something even more meaningful to my clients.
Our horses are our sun and stars, our best friends and most trusted confidants, we know every inch of them as well as we know ourselves, and I want to immortalise it through the work I offer to the world, a new layer to this truly special art that I’m so blessed with bringing to my clients.
I’ve already started doing this too, have a look through the gallery below to see how it looks. And if you’re finally ready to have your horse’s essence capture, click here to book their portrait session today.
